Blacktop Conestoga Refit Summary 20 August

Update August 20, 2020

I have decided to do periodic updates pertaining to the actual physical refit of our 1994 22' Wilderness travel trailer so that there is a historical record of it and not just some vague referenced info as I meander from subject to subject.  If you got this far you can actually just follow these updates for that sort of concrete stuff. I'll post in this font and in a fairly concise manner on the assumption that it's of any interest to anybody...

  • The first task we did was to power wash the outside after we took it out of storage after 6 months indoors

  • An electric tongue jack was installed instead of the broken original hand crank model.

  • Next, we removed all of the carpet and old vinyl. It was a sheet vinyl, mostly stapled in place and was fairly easy to remove. We also removed the window treatments, doors and everything else that would have made painting overly difficult.

  • We cleaned all of the surfaces with simple green cleaner and then wiped them down. On the floor, all of the staples were removed or hammered down.

  • All existing incandescent interior and exterior lights were replaced with low drain LED lights.

  • Outside, the original faded accent stripe was prepped, masked and re-sprayed silver (existing color) and brown (over the existing maroon. ).

  • LH forward area was demolished and a 2 shelf bookshelf was constructed.

  • Vinyl plank floor was installed.

  • Grey and Green Milk paints were applied over the walls, cabinets and doors. Ceilings and insides of cabinetry were prepped and painted with latex paint.

  • Dee designed and applied new fabric for selected cabinetry, covers and window valence themes throughout.

  • Bath backsplash was constructed of interlocking easy tiles and applied by Dee as well. I get the feeling she's done this before....

  • A Camco counter drop leaf was installed.

  • The kitchen backsplash was added yesterday as well as applying a gallon of elastomeric roof coating (after power washing snd scrubbing the surface with a solution of dawn soap and vinegar). If you've followed us in another post I talk about having to replace a rotted section of the roof before we landed here at Dumas.

  • Currently, I am waiting on the delivery of more aromatic cedar planks so that I can line the big garment closet (Dees's 😬) and maybe even part of the little hanging closet.
